About the Artist: Wellfleet artist Nancy Nicol prefers to paint shells of wild oysters harvested on the Wellfleet flats. Their curvy, exotic shapes and luminescent linings each seem to tell a story, occasionally producing pearls. Their placement on the canvas is intentional, as though they are in deep conversation or close relationship.
Nancy Nicol's artwork is found in collections nation-wide, and includes water-and-landscapes, ponds, the harbor and historic shacks including Capt' Higgins Shellfish Shack, which housed the notorious Spit and Chatter Club. She estimates hundreds of her oyster paintings are displayed in homes and businesses nationwide and she still finds them fascinating to paint.
